Layouts are close approximations. Each app crops and shortens text in its own way and changes it from time to time.

How to use the SERP & Social Preview

  1. Type the page title, meta description and address.
  2. Watch the meters: they show how much of the available space each line uses, in pixels.
  3. Switch between desktop and mobile, and add a share picture to preview link cards.
  4. Copy the finished head tags into your page.

About this tool

Search results shorten titles and descriptions by how wide they are on screen, not by how many characters they contain. A title full of wide letters such as W and M runs out of room long before one full of narrow letters such as i and l, which is why character counters give misleading advice. This preview measures the real width of your text in the font search results use, then cuts it exactly where a result would.

Under the search result you will see how the same page might appear when shared: a large picture card, a compact card and a chat-style link preview. Add the share picture from your computer to see how it is cropped. The tool also warns when the picture is too small or the wrong shape for most apps.

Finally, it writes the title, description, Open Graph and card tags for you, properly escaped, so the preview you approved is exactly what apps will read. Remember to replace the picture address with the real location of the image once it is online.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. What you type or open is never sent to a server.

Frequently asked questions

What is the ideal title and description length?

Roughly up to 580 pixels for a desktop title and about 920 pixels for a description, which is often around 55 to 60 and 150 to 160 characters. Search engines do not publish limits and change them, so treat the meters as guidance.

Why does my real result show different text?

Search engines sometimes rewrite titles and pick their own description from the page, especially when yours does not match the search. A clear, accurate description that fits the space makes that less likely.

What size should a share picture be?

1200 by 630 pixels, a ratio of about 1.91 to 1, works across nearly all apps. Keep important text and faces away from the edges, because some apps crop to a square.

Do social apps update the card when I change my tags?

Not straight away. Apps cache previews, sometimes for days. Most offer a sharing debugger or inspector page that forces them to read your page again.

Is my picture or draft uploaded?

No. The preview is drawn inside your browser and the picture is only read locally, so unpublished titles and images stay private.
