Remove Background Color
Turn a plain white (or any solid colour) background transparent.
How to use the Remove Background Color
- Drop an image with a plain, single-colour background, or click to choose it.
- The background colour is detected from the corners. Or turn that off and pick a colour.
- Raise the tolerance until the background disappears cleanly; lower it if parts of the subject vanish.
- Download the transparent PNG, or all results as a ZIP.
Examples
Auto-detect, tolerance 20, soft edges 10: clean edges for most logos.
Paper is rarely pure white, so use a higher tolerance (35).
Only remove the background touching the edges so white parts of the product stay.
About this tool
This tool makes one colour transparent. It looks at every pixel, measures how close it is to the background colour, and clears the ones that match within your tolerance. Pixels that are close but not quite a match fade out gradually, which avoids jagged outlines and removes the pale halo you often get around logos.
To be clear about what it is: this is colour keying, not AI. It does not recognise people or objects, so it works best when the background is flat and clearly different from the subject. Typical good uses are logos on white, a signature photographed on paper, icons, clip art, screenshots and product photos shot on a plain backdrop. A busy photo background, such as a room or a landscape, will not come out cleanly.
Tip: if white areas inside your subject disappear too, open "More options" and turn on "Only remove background touching the edges". Then only the background connected to the border of the image is cleared.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded?
No. Every pixel is processed by your browser on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, so signatures and unreleased product shots stay private.
Does this use AI to detect the subject?
No. It removes a chosen colour and shades close to it. That is precise and fast for flat backgrounds, but it cannot separate a person from a cluttered scene.
Why are there still light edges around my logo?
Those pixels are a blend of logo and background. Increase "Edge softness" or the tolerance slightly. The tool also strips the background tint from soft edges, which usually cleans up halos.
Why did part of my subject turn transparent?
It is close in colour to the background. Lower the tolerance, or turn on "Only remove background touching the edges" so enclosed areas are kept.
Why PNG instead of JPG?
JPG cannot store transparency. PNG keeps it perfectly and WebP keeps it with a smaller file size.
