About this tool

A strong password is long and unpredictable. This generator uses crypto.getRandomValues, the same cryptographically secure random source browsers use for encryption, so results cannot be guessed from patterns. Generation happens on your device and the passwords are never stored or transmitted.

Passphrases are several random common words joined together, like "maple-orbit-candle-river". They are easier to type and remember yet very hard to crack, because each word is picked at random from a list of about 800 words, adding nearly 10 bits of randomness.

As a rule of thumb, 60 bits of randomness is good for most accounts and 80+ is excellent. A 16-character password using all character types has about 100 bits; a 6-word passphrase has about 58.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. What you type or open is never sent to a server.

Frequently asked questions

Are these passwords really random?

Yes. They come from your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator (Web Crypto), not from Math.random.

Do you see or store my passwords?

No. Generation happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent over the network or saved.

How long should my password be?

For random characters, 16 or more is a solid default. For passphrases, 5-6 words is excellent. Always use a different password for every site and store them in a password manager.

What is a passphrase?

A sequence of random words. Because it is long, it is very strong while staying easy to remember and type.
