How to use the Sign PDF

  1. Open the PDF that needs your signature. Its pages appear on the left.
  2. Make the signature on the right: draw it on the pad, type your name in a handwriting style, or load a photo of your real signature.
  3. Press "Place signature", then click the spot on the page where it belongs. Drag it to adjust it, or pull the corner to resize it. Add a date the same way.
  4. Click "Save signed PDF" to download the finished copy.

About this tool

Signing a PDF usually means printing it, scrawling on it, scanning it back and emailing a blurry copy. This tool skips the paper. Open the document, create your signature once, and put it exactly where it belongs on any page, as often as you like. Initials on every sheet take one click with "Copy to every page", and a date or a short note can be dropped beside the signature.

There are three ways to make the signature. Draw it with a mouse, trackpad, pen or finger: the pad smooths the line and lets it swell where you slow down, the way ink does. Type your name and pick a handwriting style, using fonts already on your device. Or load a photo of your signature on paper: the tool makes the paper transparent so only the ink lands on the page, and a slider sets how much of the light tones to remove.

Be clear about what this is. The result is a picture of your signature placed on the page, the same as signing a printout, which is what most forms, leases and permission slips ask for. It is not a certificate-based digital signature with a cryptographic identity check, so it does not prove who signed or whether the file changed afterwards. Tip: save the PDF, then open it in your reader to check how the signature looks before sending it.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. What you type or open is never sent to a server.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a legally binding electronic signature?

In many places a signature image on a document counts as an electronic signature when both sides intend it to, but the rules vary by country and by type of document. This tool only adds the picture. It does not record identity, time or consent, so for anything that needs proof of who signed, use a service that issues certificate-based signatures.

Does my PDF or my signature leave my computer?

No. The document is drawn, edited and saved by code running in this browser tab, and the signature exists only in this tab's memory. Nothing is stored or transmitted, and the signature is gone when you close the page.

How do I sign on a phone?

Open the PDF, draw with your finger on the pad or type your name, tap "Place signature", scroll to the page and tap where it should go. Drag it with a finger and use the round corner handle to resize it.

Why does my signature photo have a grey box around it?

The paper in the photo is darker than pure white, so it was not fully removed. Move the slider in the Image tab to the right to remove more of the light tones. When you photograph a signature, good light and a flat sheet help the ink stand out.

Can I sign a password-protected PDF?

Not while it is locked. Open the file in your usual reader with its password, save an unprotected copy, and sign that copy here. Note that a PDF carrying a certificate-based signature loses that certificate's validity once anything is drawn on it.
