How to use the Gamepad & Stick Drift Tester

  1. Connect your controller by cable or Bluetooth and press any button.
  2. Press every button and pull each trigger; tested buttons get a dot.
  3. Put the controller down and run the drift test, then roll each stick around its edge for the range test.
  4. Use Test vibration to check the rumble motors, where supported.

About this tool

Stick drift, where the character keeps moving or the camera keeps turning when you are not touching anything, is one of the most common controller faults. It happens when the sensors inside an analogue stick wear out or get dirty, so the stick no longer reports exactly zero at rest. This tester shows each stick's live position with three decimals, and its five-second drift test records how far the stick wanders while untouched and tells you whether games are likely to notice.

Games hide small errors with a dead zone, typically about a tenth of the stick's travel. An offset under 0.05 is perfectly normal; between 0.1 and 0.2, games with small dead zones will show movement; above that the stick needs cleaning, recalibrating or replacing. The range test traces how far each stick reaches in every direction, which reveals a weak spot or a gate that does not reach the edge.

Every button is shown with its pressure value, which matters for analogue triggers, and buttons you have pressed stay marked so you can be sure nothing was missed. The browser's standard layout names buttons by position, such as bottom face and left bumper, so the labels work for any brand of controller.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. What you type or open is never sent to a server.

Frequently asked questions

Why does nothing happen when I plug the controller in?

Browsers keep controllers hidden until you press a button, so sites cannot fingerprint you by what is plugged in. Press any button with this page open and it appears.

How do I fix stick drift?

Try recalibrating in your console or operating system settings, and clean around the stick base with compressed air. If the drift test still shows offsets above 0.1, the stick module is worn and needs repair or replacement.

Why are my buttons shown as numbers?

When a controller is not recognised as standard, the browser passes on raw button numbers. Everything still works; the names just cannot be known for certain.

Does vibration work for every controller?

Only where the browser supports it, mostly Chromium-based browsers with common controllers. If the button is missing or nothing happens, the browser has not given web pages access to the motors.

Is anything recorded?

No. Button and stick readings are only drawn on the screen and kept in memory for the tests. Nothing is stored or sent.
